OpenSolar to Xero Integration Settings

In order to grant SunWiz access to your OpenSolar account please make sure you are logged into your OpenSolar account and click here please follow the steps below once the page loads

1. Input “supportdesk@sunwiz.com.au” as the email invitation to be sent to.
2. Input “SunWiz” as the First name.
3. Input “Support” as the Family name.
4. Input “1300 786 949” as the phone number. (Optional)
5. Click on the “Is Admin” toggle .

Please click here or follow the steps below to add us as a user to your OpenSolar account:

1. Navigate to the control section.
2. Click on “Company” to expand the hidden options.
3. Click on the “Team” option.
4. In the top right corner click on the “Create” button.
5. Input “supportdesk@sunwiz.com.au” as the email invitation to be sent to.
6. Input “SunWiz” as the First name.
7. Input “Support” as the Family name.
8. Input “1300 786 949” as the phone number. (Optional)
9. Click on the “Is Admin” toggle .

Adding a SunWiz User to Your Xero Account

Next you need to add “supportdesk@sunwiz.com.au” as a user into your Xero account with “Adviser” permissions, follow the steps below: (this grants permissions to integrate third party applications with Xero)

1. Login to your Xero account and make sure you have the organization selected that you would like to integrate with OpenSolar.
2. Click on your organization name in the top left corner and click on “Settings” from the drop-down menu.
3. Then click on the “Users” option in the Organization settings screen.
4. In the top right corner you will see a green button “invite a user” click it.

1. Once the user invitation screen loads input First name as “SunWiz”.
2. Input “Integrations” as the Last name.
3. input “supportdesk@sunwiz.com.au” as the email.
4. Check the “Business and accounting” box.
5. Click on the “Adviser” button to grant us the permissions required to link third party apps to Xero.
6. Click the “Send invite” button.

Creating an Account on the API Server

For this next section, you are welcome to request us to set it up on your behalf. However you would need to provide us with your OpenSolar login details.

Please note if you are a Nearmap on OpenSolar user click here to create a unique user account in OpenSolar (it’s not possible to use your Nearmap login details for this)

1. Click Here to get started.
2. Input your name into the “Name” field.
3. Input your email address into the “Email” field.
4. Input a password of your choice and confirm the password.
5. Input your OpenSolar login email into the “Username” field.
6. Input your OpenSolar password into the “Password” field.
7. Input {$service_username} into the “License Key” field.

Setting Xero Line Items Tax and Account Settings

For this next section, you are welcome to request us to set it up on your behalf. However you would need to provide us with your OpenSolar login details. Or your API server login details if you have gotten this far.

Upon creating your login to the API server, you need to then provide inputs as to how you would like your invoices to apply settings to the line items.

1. Input the number of the account you would like to get applied to the system component line items. E.g. 200 – Sales would apply to panels, inverters, batteries and other components.
2. GST on Income is the tax setting that gets applied to the component line items, if set to OUTPUT it will apply GST Inclusive, if set to INPUT it will apply GST Exclusive and there are other options available such as BASEXCLUDED.
3. STC Tax Account this is the Xero tax account settings that get applied to the STC line item this is usually a custom account that has been created for example 201 – STC Income. (you only need to input the number of the account and not it’s name)
4. STC GST On Income is similar to GST On Income, but it’s specific to the STC line item we recommend leaving this as OUTPUT as it gets applied to commercial OpenSolar projects ensuring it’s GST Inclusive.
5. STC GST Free Income is for the STC line item for OpenSolar residential projects where the line item is set to INPUT setting it as GST Exclusive.

Create an API Token for OpenSolar Authentication

For this next section, you are welcome to request us to set it up on your behalf. However you would need to provide us with your OpenSolar login details. Or your API server login details if you have gotten this far.

For this next section, you need to create an API Token which is used to authenticate your integration with OpenSolar, you can do this by performing the following steps:

1. Whilst logged into the API server (click here to login if you aren’t already) click on your name in the top right corner and click on “API Tokens” from the drop-down menu.
2. Once the API Tokens page has loaded, input a name (E.g. “OpenSolar – Xero Integration” or “OpenSolar Access Token”) into the “Token Name” field and click on the “Create” button.
3. Make sure you copy the API Token that gets created and save it somewhere as you will not be able to view it in the server again. 
4. Please email the API Token that you have created and your business name to supportdesk@sunwiz.com.au or input the API token in the field below this is so we can use this Token to setup your integration for you.

We appreciate your patience with getting this integration setup, once you have set up the above and sent us your API Token we will then link your Xero account with your OpenSolar account which should take us approximately 30 minutes to provision assuming everything has been setup correctly. In future this integration process will become simpler, but at the moment OpenSolar’s API has strict authentication processes which is the reason for the steps above, OpenSolar have notified us they will be looking at updating their authentication to OAuth in the near future which will significantly simplify this process.
